Bertrand Piccard left Varanasi at 05:22 local time India (2352 UTC) after a short pit-stop. This flight is a training for Bertand who started as a balloonist and is now flying a Solar Plane #RTW. This will also allow to test the stabilisation and augmentation system, as well as the oxygen as he climbs up to 27,000 feet.

Bertrand Piccard is landing in Mandalay (Myanmar) at 7:30 pm local time (1:00 pm UTC). This flight allow to test the stabilisation and augmentation system, as well as the oxygen as he climbs up to 27,000 feet. This flight broke a record in terms of speed going up to 117 knots pushed by tail winds. Bertrand Piccard

André Borschberg landed Si2 safely and is welcomed in Varanasi by Indian host partner Aditya Birla Group. The team made a pit-stop before Bertrand Piccard flew out from Varanasi (India) to Mandalay (Myanmar). The official take-off time from Varanasi was at 05:22 local time India (23:52 UTC) and the landing is expected to be at 7:30 pm local time (1:00p pm UTC).

André Borschberg took off with Si2 from Ahmedabad heading to Varanasi. The departure was delayed due to customs leading to many encouraging messages from the local and international community. Raymond, our explains the complications that this situation could have led to.

Landing in Ahmedabad completes the second leg of the First Round-The-World Solar Flight, with Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg having taken the controls for one flight each. H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco joined the MCC for the landing of Si2. After a delay in the landing, Bertrand Piccard finally touches ground breaking a record in terms of distance and flight duration.

Si2 leaves Muscat-Oman to fly across the Arabian Sea, over part of Pakistan, landing into Ahmedabad in the state of Gujarat, India.

Estimated flight distance 1,450Km over 16 hours, with Bertrand Piccard at the controls.

Bertrand Piccard makes the second leg of the First Round-The-World Solar Flight, leaving from Muscat International Airport (OOMS) to Ahmedabad. Si2 will touch ground for the first time in India, after a leg that should be a record-breaking flight in terms of duration in a solar powered airplane.

Solar Impulse will land into Muscat International Airport, MCT/OOMS in the Sultanate of Oman, completing the longest flight of Si2 to date. Pilot André Borschberg will wait until the sun sets and the ground-level turbulence is reduced before landing for a pit-stop, with the controls soon handed over to Bertrand Piccard for the second flight to Ahmedabad, India.

Solar Impulse will take off for its first flight from Abu Dhabi (Al Bateen Executive Airport, AZI/OMAD) in the United Arab Emirates, to Muscat (Muscat International Airport, MCT/OOMS) in the Sultanate of Oman. The pilot will fly the zero-fuel airplane on about 400km (215NM) for an estimated time of 12 hours. Masdar, Host Partner for the round-the-world, hosted Solar Impulse during the reassembly of Si2 and the final flight preparations. Masdar City is an example of the shared vision for the use of renewable energy and clean technologies.

Solar Impulse is flying to Chongqing with Bertrand Piccard at the controls of Si2. This flight is one of the most challenging since the beginning of the RTW adventure. Bertrand Piccard will need to fly over the Himalayas, resist extremely cold conditions, and manage the oxygen mask for 15 hours straight.

Schindler and Sina welcomes Solar Impulse into China for the first time, in Chongqing, the world’s largest municipality in the world. Si2 was on holding before landing due to traffic at the large International Airport of Chongqing.This

Solar Impulse is flying over the Middle Kingdom on it's way to Nanjing with Bertrand Piccard at the controls. This flight will last around 17 hours and Si2 will go up to 12’000 feet, according to the flight plan. Mr. Geng, our aviation specialist for China, will be supporting the team, as the flight conditions over the region are quite different to other standards. This is the last flight before the Pacific experience, and André is recovering from sickness in Switzerland before this incredible challenge.

Bertrand Piccard will be replacing André Borschberg at the controls of Si2 for the sixth and last leg before crossing the Pacific due to sickness.
